Michael Diffley Memorial Trophy & Digital Image of the Year 2019/20

12th Of March saw the club joined by Christine Hodgson B.A (Phot), ARPS, CPAGB to judge the Michael P. Diffley Memorial Trophy and the Best of the Year Digital Images.

This is a single round competition with four images in four different categories from each author.

There were five 20’s awarded on the night to:

  • John Walker for “Local Butcher” in Candid
  • Craig Wilkinson for “Storm Dennis hits Perch Rock Lighthouse” in Photojournalism
  • Craig Wilkinson for “Tommy Statue, Seaham” in Pictorial
  • Kirsty McLeod for “Erica en pointe” in Portrait, and
  • Rodney Tordoff for “Zebedee De Folja & Olivia Wilmot” in Sport.

This was an incredibly closely fought competition with the final cumulative scores ranging from 66 to 72.

In 3rd place was John Tebbit with a score of 70.  But tied with absolutely identical image scores of 20/18/18/16 totalling 72 were Rodney Tordoff and Kirsty McLeod.  Images scoring 20 are eligible for the following year’s “best digital image of the season” as this is judged on the same night, by the same judge.

Selected from digital images achieving 20 in the 3 round competition and the previous year’s Michael P Diffley competition, plus authors’ choice of their best image from those competitions. On the night the judge selected Craig Wilkinson’s “The Moment You Realize Things Aren’t Going To End Well” as the overall winner.
