About Us
History
A photography club with a history dating back to 1962
Pudsey Camera Club began in 1962 as the Pudsey Photographic Society, providing a place for local photography enthusiasts to meet, share their interests and enjoy their passion for photography.
As the club grew, it introduced regular competitions featuring 35mm slides and prints. Many members produced their own prints at home using traditional darkroom techniques.
In 1988, the society changed its name to Pudsey Camera Club. The name wasn’t the only thing to evolve over the years. While competitions for projected images and prints remain an important part of club life, photography itself has changed considerably.
Over the past 20 years or so, digital photography has largely replaced traditional film. Digital projected images have taken the place of 35mm slides, while prints are now generally produced using modern digital printers rather than home darkrooms.
Through all these changes, the club’s purpose remains the same: bringing people together to share their passion for photography, learn from one another and enjoy the work of fellow photographers.
Pudsey Camera Club is affiliated with the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) through the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU). This affiliation gives us access to experienced competition judges from across Yorkshire’s three Ridings, who visit the club to judge our competitions and offer valuable feedback.
We are also active members of the Inter-Club Colour Group, where photography clubs from across the Yorkshire region compete against one another, giving our members further opportunities to share and showcase their work.
Achievements
Our members have a wide range of photographic experience and achievements. Several hold the CPAGB (Credit) distinction, while others have achieved the DPAGB (Distinction) distinction through the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
One member holds the LRPS distinction from the Royal Photographic Society. Members’ photographs are regularly accepted for exhibition by the Yorkshire Photographic Union, and several members have also achieved success in British Photographic Exhibitions (BPE).

More Than Just Photography
Pudsey Camera Club is about more than taking pictures. It’s a place to share ideas, learn from fellow photographers, discover new techniques and gain inspiration from seeing how others approach their photography. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, there’s always something new to explore.
Our club nights bring members together to enjoy photography in a friendly and supportive environment. Through presentations, competitions, practical sessions and discussions, we have opportunities to develop our skills, try different approaches and see the world from fresh perspectives. Hearing feedback from judges and other members can help us recognise what works well in an image and where we might improve.
Just as importantly, we enjoy celebrating one another’s work, sharing experiences and learning together. Every photographer has their own interests and way of seeing the world, and that variety is part of what makes a camera club so rewarding. At Pudsey Camera Club, there is always something to inspire your next photograph and plenty of encouragement to help you develop your passion.
