The new season at Pudsey Camera Club is off to a fantastic start, with a great buzz around our Thursday night meetings and a calendar packed full of inspiring talks, competitions, and creative opportunities. Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or just starting out and looking for a friendly camera club in Leeds or Pudsey, there’s never been a better time to get involved.
A Great Start with Two Inspiring Speakers
We kicked off October with two brilliant evenings that set the tone perfectly.
Our first guest speaker was Nigel Lumb, a talented photographer and friend of club member Larry Walker. Nigel’s passion for photography began back in the 1960s, when he spent hours helping his uncle in the darkroom — an experience that sparked what became a lifelong creative pursuit.
During his talk, Nigel spoke about learning through experimentation, and how he finds the greatest satisfaction in “the hunt” for images — chasing moments of light and life that tell a story. He shared work that reflected his love of street, landscape, and wildlife photography, particularly scenes from Yorkshire and northern England. Nigel’s approach is refreshingly down-to-earth: he creates photographs simply for the joy of it, valuing the process and wellbeing it brings above all else.
You can see more of his images on his Gamma Photo Forum portfolio.
The following week, we enjoyed a talk from our very own Stuart Allen, whose presentation Minimalism and More captivated the audience. Based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, Stuart spends countless hours exploring urban and industrial areas, seeking beauty in simplicity and structure.
His work, while rooted in minimalism, also carries hints of the New Topographics style — thoughtful compositions that document the modern landscape with quiet elegance. Stuart’s talk was full of insight, humour, and inspiration, reminding us all to slow down and really see the world around us.
